Diesel Technician/Mechanic - Evening Shift

North Central International is a full-service Navistar/International Truck dealer group with locations across Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota. We offer truck sales and service, parts sales, and Idealease truck leasing/rentals. Our primary focus is to keep customers on the road by having an exceptional experience within our organizations.

We are looking for a diesel technician/mechanic to maintain diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records.


Wage: $20- $37/hour, dependent on experience

Hours: 3:30 p.m. to Midnight


Diesel Technician/Mechanic Duties:

- Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged components.

- Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.

- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.

- Comply with OEM warranty guidelines as it pertains to proper diagnostic and repair of a vehicle.

- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.


Diesel Technician/Mechanic Skills & Qualifications:

- Must have technical school training or equivalent on-the-job experience.

- Must have own tools.

Parts Counter Sales

The Parts Counter Salesperson is responsible for selling inventory to customers and providing the mechanics with any products necessary to complete their repair. The salesperson will perform a variety of customer service, in store, marketing, promoting, advertising, and stocking duties related to the receiving, sale, and delivery of parts and accessories that contribute to the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of the dealership’s parts department.

Pay based on experience.

Position includes full benefits - PTO, Health, Dental and retirement plan.


Parts Counter Sales Duties:

- Fill customer and mechanic orders from stock

- Read catalogs or computer displays in order to determine replacement part stock numbers and prices

- Advise customers on substitution or modification of parts when identical replacements are not available

- Determine replacement parts required, according to inspections of old parts, customer requests, or customers’ descriptions of malfunctions

- Receive and fill telephone orders for parts

- Prepare sales invoices

- Receive payment or obtain credit authorization

- Take inventory of stock

- Examine returned parts for defects, and exchange defective parts or refund money

- Mark and store parts in stockrooms according to company specifications

- Discuss use and features of various parts, based upon knowledge of equipment

- Demonstrate equipment to customers and explain functioning

- Assist with merchandise displays

- Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain and enhance the appearance of products, sales area


Parts Counter Sales Skills/Qualifications:

- Previous parts sales experience preferred

- Must be able to learn the business system

- High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s Degree or higher preferred


Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
